Abundant Life Church

Abundant Life is a non-denominational church in Tampa, striving to live out the Biblical commands God outlines in His Holy Word. This means worshiping and following Jesus Christ not only through our words, but also through the lives we lead.


Founded by Pastor Michael Barnes and Pastor Karen Barnes in the living room of their Brandon, Florida apartment, our ministry's focus is to help stop the perishing in our community.

Our Pastor - Dr. Karen Barnes

Pastor Karen assumed oversight of the Abundant Life Church of God in Christ just after the death of her husband, Matthew Barnes, in February of 2006. Being led of God, she and the congregation realigned under the bishopric of Dr. Curt L. McKay in August 2009, thereby becoming the Abundant Life Non-denominational Church.


Pastor Karen believes that in addition to serving in some capacity inside the house of worship, each member is to enlist in some form of outreach aimed at advancing the Kingdom. As God adds to our numbers, the number of outreach opportunities is sure to increase.


Pastor Karen herself believes in being continually equipped for ministry. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Theology and a Master’s in Pastoral Theology from the Grace and Truth Christian University. With the completion of her dissertation in June 2012, she earned a PhD in Christian Counseling.


A great joy of Pastor Karen’s life is her only child, a son, Michael Quinton Barnes.

  • WE BELIEVE the bible to be the inspired and only infallible word of God.
  • WE BELIEVE that there is one God eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God The Holy Spirit.
  • WE BELIEVE in the blessed hope, which is the rapture of the Church of God, which is in Christ at His return.
  • WE BELIEVE that the only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance: faith in the precious blood of Jesus Christ and accepting the Gospel according to Romans 10:9-10.

  • WE BELIEVE that regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvation.
  • WE BELIEVE that the redemptive work of Christ on the cross provides healing for the human body in answer to believing prayer.
  • WE BELIEVE that the baptism in the Holy Ghost according to Acts 2:4 is given to believers who ask for it.
  • WE BELIEVE in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling, the Christian is enabled to live a holy and separated life in this present world.

  • WE BELIEVE in the second coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and that He shall reign with power and glory and, that in the rapture of the church, we shall be united with Him forever.
  • WE BELIEVE in celebrating the Lord's Supper as an ordinance, in memory of the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, according to His instructions.
  • WE BELIEVE in administering baptism in water as an ordinance according to the instructions of Christ.
